Though It Costs You Everything: Part One: Highest Quality

The words chosen to use in this serious is of careful prayer and respect to authors grammar.  Some words chosen disregard grammatical rules in order to carry greater meaning to convey a spiritual meaning.  We trust that the words in this series will communicate to the hearts of their audiences.

Proverbs 4:7 says, "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."

John 10:10, Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life and have whatever is abundant.”

As I was running today I received an impression in my heart which said something like "Though it cost you everything, pursue quality.   Don't settle no matter where you are in life.  You have more than you need." This mostly came to me because I had bought running shoes from a local grocery store, because I had returned to Toledo, Ohio, from Spain and lost my running shoes somewhere in Paris, France.   So upon arriving home from Europe, I thought, "Well, any pair of running shoes will do, right??"  I was wrong.  I finished running a marathon in November 3rd, about a week ago, and boy did I feel the pain of those shoes!  Please learn from my mistakes people!

It made me curious as to why I bought those shoes in the first place?   After some honest dialogue with myself inside, I realized I had bought those shoes because of a "misbelief" about my life at this time.  I bought those shoes thinking, "Well, I can't afford any better shoes.  $100 is too much to pay for a pair of sneakers."  Yet a month later I had paid more to get my teeth whitened.  It's all about perspective people!   The Lord really spoke to me about this saying something like: "You can't afford not to get those shoes!"  Well, it's the same thing about our spiritual life.  We don't stop to pray or consider God because we think we can't afford to stop and smell the daily bread God has prepared for us each day.   God is saying: "You can't afford NOT to!"   This evenly spreads out to each corner of our lives.   In order to live a quality life, the life Jesus describes as the abundant and full life, we need to make room for quality no matter where we are in our lives.

Though it costs me everything!   You see, I was thinking that I was to impoverished to buy quality.  I thought that now wasn't a time to bring quality into my life.  I really sense God saying to us:  You can't afford to bring anything less!  If you can't afford it (I'm sure Dave Ramsey would agree with me on this one) then don't buy it! But don't compromise either. Compromising for something that "will do" only makes you and what you stand for look silly.  And it is better to remain silent, than to speak hurriedly and make a fool out of yourself.

Yesterday, I met a small boy who wanted to wreck my lawn for $5.00.  I wanted to encourage the boy who is starting his wracking business early so I ran in the house to find five dollar bills.  I could only find three.  I ran back outside and told the young lad, "Here's three dollars.  Wreck whatever you can."  Well, this was a mistake because the lawn looked even stranger than it did before with a quarter of the lawn wrecked with leaves by the time the boy finished.  It looked so silly.

This is the way God see us, his children, when we compromise in bringing anything apart of the highest quality into our lives!  It's silly and in my opinion, better not to have a pair of running shoes at all until you can figure out how to appropriately afford the quality for the job!

Make a decision today that you will pray for God's wisdom to help us:  Think quality.  Meditate on such things.  The apostle Paul wrote:

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things." 1

I know it's a challenge, but God wouldn't tell us to do ANYTHING that we can not do with His help!  So lets pray together:

God, I have compromised time and time again in my life.  But today, please help me to seek your wisdom and only allow things of noble character into my life.  Bless me as you desire to bless me, ABUNDANTLY."

Have a blessed day and be prepared to meditate on God's word with me as we look into our next series:

Though it Costs You Everything:  Pursuing Value in our lives.  How well do we value "value" in our lives?

If you'd like to accept Jesus into your life today, pray this simple prayer of God's love and grace today: Lord Jesus, I thank you for dying for all my sin; now Lord I invite you into my heart. Come and be my everything today and forever. Forgive my sin as I make You and you alone Lord in my life. Amen. Now read the book of God's love in the Bible: The book of John chapters 1-21. God promises He will guide your life. Pray and ask God to bring the right people into your life. God will guide you to the right church full of people who love His words in the Bible. Our God is so faithful. God bless you today.

Direction version:

Thinking any shoe will do?  Knowledge and understanding go hand in hand with high quality.  No matter how much money you have or where you are or where you are from, you deserve the highest of quality.  Really you don't deserve it, but this is the mystery of Christ who says, you are worth it.  Christ died for you!  God's ONLY Son:  God sent His only son to suffer, hurt, and die for everything you have done and everything you will ever do.  The highest of quality was sacrificed on your behalf.  This is an incredible mystery that will be forever contemplated on.  It is without description BEAUTIFUL.  Now, you go and pursue quality in your life.  I thought of this after I ran a marathon in some shoes that I bought from Meijer, which is like a Walmart of sorts, for $23.00.   Look, after that marathon, I realize many things, one of which is:  you can not afford to live under the potential and quality you have been credited to by God Most High.  Running, and doing something very great in very low quality shoes is not worth it.  In order to do something great, you will need to associate yourself amongst the greats.   Thank God for the Bible, with whom we can by grace associate with the greatest of greats in God's book!  Listen closely, are you running a race?  Buy the shoes! Just buy the shoes!  Even if you have to save $200.00.  Not everybody runs marathons so BUY THE SHOES!  Now, are you desiring to be in ministry, get the training! Save the money!  Go to school!  You are more than that!  Ask God to open up your heart to opportunities to improve the quality of  your life.  IT'S ALL IN FRONT OF YOU RIGHT NOW. THERE IS NOT ONE THING LACKING AROUND YOU RIGHT NOW.  That is not said to make you feel better.  It's so true it should be making you sick right now!  It is incredibly true.   If you don't see it as true, then you might be labeling value to the wrong things in your life.
