1. What if this was your last day (to make it)?
This may be eerie, but it helps to think of it this way. Keep your house the way you would want the police and detectives to see your house if this was your last day. If this was your last day, what messages would you like to leave for your kids, your family, your friends, and the entire world? If this was your last day, all people would see you this way, forever. There's no last chance to say different, or make a another message to leave everyone. . If this was your last day, what would you want the world to see about you? What message do you want people to read about you from the area you stay in?
2. Personal Responsibility
This is my own opinion, but not making the bed sends the message that I'm putting things off...for...something else, or someone else. I make my bed to send the message, I WILL be responsible for my decisions.
3. My message for today
My message for today is. Yes, you are valuable. Yes, you are worth it. Yes, I'm going to dress you to the T today. You deserve it. This is a beautiful day and I intend to dress it up : )
4. Intimate care about and for myself.
Especially when people are not looking. The bed can easily represent what is inside the heart. The bed is perhaps one of the only things we have to clean everyday, that is ours, but we don't necessary have to show everybody...it's just something very personal to us. Do we nurture the things people don't see often?
What do you want this day to represent? The bed is the first opportunity to give a message to this day. What will this day represent to you? Were you too busy? Or will you take time to do what needs to be done today?
6. Practice: 1st things 1st
As mentioned, the first act we have to clean besides ourselves is the bed / bedroom. We start the day off with a practice of putting things in to order.
Our practices send us on a spiral to other practices similar to that first one. This practice sends the first thing to the second...sounds redundant but think of it this way: That first thing writes its signature on everything after it. What ever the first thing is will write its signature on all you do, so what first things are you putting first?
7. Making the bed is a gift
Making the bed is a gift, giving us the opportunity to start the day off right. It gives us a chance to choose: Okay, what will may day be like? Am I going to choose today to live my best or just cut corners and try to just get by? Making the bed gives yourself the great gift: give yourself dignity, care, order, and structure to the day.
8. Making the bed leaves a practice for other people to follow
If you live with someone or if someone has the opportunity to see your bed daily, it sends the message of 1-7, 9 and 10 to all who see it. This man cares about his day. He's not just going to let things slide. She's not just taking or accepting excuses as to why to not accomplish what needs to be done. They take care of things even when or if people don't see it. To me, it's the first sign of success to give for yourself, for others and for the day.
9. There is no other day to get it done.
If you wait for the next day to make the bed, that day never comes and sends you towards a spiral of attitudes similar throughout your life. There is no other day to finish the job. Making the bed reminds us that today is the only day we may have to do it. Today, might be the last day or it may be the first day. ;) Make this day fresh, after all, its all we have : )
10. No one can afford not to make the bed
People lose the fight from the first acts of the day. I live by a corner, an intersection. Now, the two roads appear to be going adjacent to each other, but they are not perpendicular; in fact they are actually at a 5 degree angle difference to one another so that if you go down one street from the other street, if you go down about 5 minutes down the road, the further you go, the further away you are from that other road, though they look adjacent. Sometimes, that 5 or 10 degree act of direction and send your day miles towards the better direction than you think. You can not afford not to make that bed. Making it will take your attitude about your day far.
This is not a message to make you feel bad about yourself, but to help you understand the potential of your day and your ability to make it EVERYTHING it can be for you. God bless you as you give your all, not just in making the bed, but in practicing putting first things first. God speed!
