Smart for My Name Sake Vs. Foolish For God's Name Sake

Which are you?  I thought about the first one, "Smart for my own name sake" and I would have to say I have done this.  I have thought about how things could work out for me so I can look good to others.  I tried looking smart, but I never realized that I wasn't fooling anybody.  I especially wasn't fooling God.   I learned that He knows the beginning from the end.  He truly knows the root of my heart and all my actions.  God knows when I am not really doing this or that for his glory, and when I'm doing it for just my own name sake.  The funny thing is, when we are all wrapped up in the "smart for my own name sake" thing, I find it is even more impossible for me to be wrapped up in the "Foolish for God's Name Sake" thing; you can't have both, in my humble opinion.

This challenges our frame of mind.  For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.  This is to say that ANYTHING with a sincere heart for God in it is stronger and is better than ANYTHING without.  Expertise and knowledge is good, but often too much dependence on expertise and you have just chocked out the heart of the matter.  There has to be some volunerability when it comes to God. You can't just 100% have it all figured out and know all of the practical answers in God's kingdom.  The rich man wanted to justify himself so he asked Jesus "What else must I do, teacher? Is there anything else I need to do?"  Jesus wanted the rich man to find his heart, where his heart is, his volunerability; Jesus told him, "Go and sell all that you have, give it to the poor [those who you have despised], and then follow me!"  That was too hard!  He would need God's help for that one!  In the same way, we all have volunerability and we all need to be at that place and be okay with it.

Be foolish for God's name sake and He will take care of you.  He says,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” any.  So we might as well lean on His wisdom alone and his strength.

This means, don't worry about those who look like they have it all together and they might be ridiculing you.  Those who don't want to be humble will be humbled.  Those who don't want to say that I [God] had a place in this will be put to shame, but those who serve me, I will honor.

Give up your right to be "smart for your own name sake"  Cross over into "Foolish for God's name sake" today.  Jesus did.   He could have had it all earthly speaking on this earth, but instead he chose a cross, death on a cross; he died for you and me and for our sin.  To man kind during Jesus' generation, this was FOOLISHNESS, but he did it and it has made and does make up ALL THE DIFFERENCE today. In fact, it is the only thing that matters.  This was such a beautiful act of love that Jesus could not remain in the grave.  Three days later, He rose again from the dead and now He lives forever with God at his right hand.  "At the right hand" means God has given him ALL authority in heaven and on earth, and He will reign for ever and ever and more!

So let us lose our desire to be "smart for you own good" and  be foolish for God's own good today.  Ask your local pastor what that looks like or may mean in your own life.  Read the Bible and get discipled under someone who Biblically teaches you in the word of God today.  He said he will never leave you nor forsake you.  He will be with you even after this life.  :)  God bless you as you go on this wonderful adventure in Jesus.

If you'd like to accept Jesus into your life today, pray this simple prayer of God's love and grace today: Lord Jesus, I thank you for dying for all my sin; now Lord I invite you into my heart. Come and be my everything today and forever. Forgive my sin as I make You and you alone Lord in my life. Amen. Now read the book of God's love in the Bible: The book of John chapters 1-21. God promises He will guide your life. Pray and ask God to bring the right people into your life. God will guide you to the right church full of people who love His words in the Bible. Our God is so faithful. God bless you today.
