Fixing Our Eyes Back on Jesus During these times

This may be one of the hardest times to focus on Jesus in the mist of all of life's twists and turns.  But here are some directions for today:

1. Pay attention to what you are thinking about the most.

We need to stop and think often about what you are thinking about.

Isaiah 26: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Deuteronomy 11:18 (NIV),”Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV), “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

When we find ourselves focused on one thing more than Jesus and the things of Christ alone, we need to stop and recalibrate our focus back on what matters:  Jesus.

2. During this time when people attach much emotion to political events, we need to monitor our emotions and make sure that our greatest emotional reactions are above all, hands down, devoted to the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  If not, it's time to recalibrate.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe in this?" John 11:25-26

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." 1 Co 1:18

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." 1 Peter 1:3

3. Fix our minds on Christ.  Train our emotions to be devoted to Christ.  And third we fix our mission back to and centered on Christ alone.

In this time, it is easy to make our purpose or agenda to being agents for political and structural change and that is okay because we need political leaders who love Jesus in the political office, but that kind of decision needs to be a decision not based sudden reaction.  Our mission can not be based solely on what we think or based solely on our emotions.   We need to always base our goals and mission on the word of God through silent, fervent and quiet prayer time with the Lord.

If you feel like you need to flip the world upside down after getting upset over a media commercial, that is not the way God generally speaks to us.  We need to get alone with God and recenter our attention on Him first.  We need to get our direction from God in the stillness of quiet and prayer that is focused on adoring Jesus Christ.  To do that we need to ask God to help us  devote all our heart mind soul and strength to Jesus again and again.  We receive our direction after seeking first God's kingdom and His righteousness (see Matthew 6:33).

Let's focus on Jesus during this time, because our goals as Christians ought not to be political change first, but soul transformation first,  Let's pray to stay focused on the kingdom and the gospel of Jesus Christ first always.  Jesus is the hope of the world now and forever more.  Let's fix our eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.  Thank God for Jesus!  Thank God that for the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Praise You Jesus for loving me so much that you laid down your life to save me.  Help us in these times, LORD,  to fix our eyes on Jesus Christ and call upon His name.

If you'd like to accept Jesus into your life today, pray this simple prayer of God's love and grace today: Lord Jesus, I thank you for dying for all my sin; now Lord I invite you into my heart. Come and be my everything today and forever. Forgive my sin as I make You and you alone Lord in my life. Amen. Now read the book of God's love in the Bible: The book of John chapters 1-21. God promises He will guide your life. Pray and ask God to bring the right people into your life. God will guide you to the right church full of people who love His words in the Bible. Our God is so faithful. God bless you today.
